We were able to play on the Mall Saturday without any contact from the park rangers. We’ll play on the Mall this evening and hope for the same result. Worst case scenario, we’ll have to remove cleats.
It’s going to be a beautiful evening for touch rugby. Low sixties, with a moderate breeze, and partial cloud cover.
The cherry blossom parade is tomorrow and runs along Constitution Ave. If we move further toward the capital building maybe there will be less congestion and chaos. We should be able to use one of the fields on the mall in front of the national gallery. There is a chance the park rangers will be out and about, so barefoot/sneakers might be in the cards.
At any rate, give yourself some extra time to get down to the mall and find parking if you drive. I suggest going early since most of the road closures start at 9. Below is a link to all the road closures. I couldn’t find a closure map, so I made a quick one and highlighted where we will likely play. https://dcist.com/story/22/04/06/street-closures-2022-cherry-blossom-parade/
Weather will be on the chilly side, but we should get enough sun that it won’t feel too cold.
No more rain expected today, but the ground is still going to be wet and sloppy. Bad news for all the steppers, good news for people that have trouble defending them. The temp will still be on the chilly side (60F/15C). For some that’s bikini weather, while others may need multiple layers. However you dress, come ready for a little muddy fun and fitness.
Perfect weather for some after work touch. Cool, but not cold, light breeze and no precipitation. Sun doesn’t set until 7:35, so we’ll be able to have a nice long session.
It’s going to start off a little chilly, but the sun will be out and it will get to a reasonable 50ish. There will still be crowds for the cherry blossoms, but no specific event to contend with. Looking forward to a fun run.
Also looking forward to getting back on the tidal basin. April 16 we’ll get our favorite Saturday spot back.
A polar vortex pushed some uncharacteristic cold weather over us. It will be cold and breezy this evening (34F/1C, with wind chill 22F/-5C). So get back into the winter mindset for one day and come ready for fun.
Be prepared for lingering cherry blossom traffic and parking issues. Although I don’t see any road closures or special events today
Sorry for the back and forth. The weather report looked so bad this morning, but as usual these things can change quickly this time of year. It’s hard to reverse course and in this case the momentum continued into not playing.
We’ll still be out on Saturday by the WW2 side of the Washington monument.
The storm is moving through and breaking up faster than anticipated. It will still be a little chilly, some wind and you’ll likely get wet, but only a light rain. Still trying to confirm at least 12 before we are definitively on.
Plan on Bundy field 5:30pm. Less mud, less traffic, more parking. Low likelihood of fighting for space due to the weather. The definitive call on or off should be about 4:30
