Touch Tournament Roundup

Team, we all did an outstanding job at this past weekend’s touch tournament. Our team A placed an impressive first place in the second division play offs and Team B came in at a close 3rd in the first division, narrowly losing to Columbia by 5-6.

Despite our losses, we all learnt an incredible amount about the game. The quality at which both our teams played was a big improvement over our usual Saturday morning gatherings! It was also a great experience to have met our match against the more pro teams that showed up and hopefully we’re all better players as a result.

Thanks to all of the players and spectators who attended and pushed through an intensely hot and physically demanding day while maintaining consistently high levels of team spirit. A special shout out to Eric for the jerseys, John and Eric for the tents (we wouldn’t have survived long without them!) and to all of our drivers. An extra special thanks to Cliff who not only made us aware of the event, but also cooked up a storm for the entire 100 odd people at the event!!

Finally thanks to Kaitlin for the photos. I’m posting some below, but feel free to download the full set here. Looking forward to seeing you all out there again soon for our usual Saturday morning games!

No touch this Saturday on the mall

Just an FYI that there will be no touch this Saturday (June 29) on the mall as the team will be playing in a tournament in Maryland. HOWEVER we are playing tonight (Thursday June 27) at 6PM on the mall at the same spot. Open to anyone who wants to join, not just those playing in the tourney. We’re going to be going over some tricks, tips and strategy that will help us all improve!

Thursday Practice/Tournament Prep

Hey guys,

Let’s prep for Saturday’s tournament with practice this Thursday.  We’ll use the time to go over some techniques, and play with our respective teams if most people show up.  Playing with our teams will help us get a feel for how we’ll operate on Saturday.

Let’s meet at 6 at the same place where we usually play.  We may play a little closer to 17th street because there will be softball players around, but it’s basically the same space.

Hope to see everyone there!

If you really want to touch it – Saturday June 22 @ 9AM

Team, you know the drill. We need to know who is hot and who is not for Saturday morning touch rugby at the mall at 9AM.

For those coming to the tournament, please bring $20 with you ($5 for spectators). For those who requested team tees, please bring $15 for Eric (we both have to pay in advance). See you Saturday (or tonight for those who are coming to ‘practice’)!

Tournament threads: Need sizes people!

Hi team,

Eric has kindly organized for the printing of these very cool tank tops for the team heading to the tournament next week. For those coming and wanting one of the below, Please POST YOUR SIZE (S,M,L, XL etc) and cut (male/female) in the comments section (if you are between sizes, Eric recommends getting the size below). The cost is a very reasonable $15 and we need to know whether you’re in for one by THIS FRIDAY. Of course, if you are not coming to the tournament and want one anyway, just let us know! Also, if you’re coming to touch on Thursday evening or Saturday please bring with you both the money for the “jersey” and for the tournament (total $35).

Finally, for those who have not confirmed their participation for next Saturday, please comment on this post letting me know if you can make it. We have 14 confirmed with 2 maybes so it would be nice to get to 18-20 so we can have two teams represented. I will be organizing logistics this weekend via email and not via the blog so let me know if you’re in!
