Who can make it for Saturday the 13th?

All,

The rugby gods have blessed us.  Saturday at 10am we’re looking at a perfect day for touch–60 degrees, an easy breeze, and rain-softened ground that won’t strain the knees (see what I did there).  That’s right, you can hold off on the farmers tan for at least another week before the blistering weather arrives (although, it’s 90 degrees today…).  Let me know if you’re in, or if you have lesser matters to attend to.  If you can bust a rhyme in your response, that’d obviously be ideal.

We need numbers for Saturday!

Hey Guys,

So far we’ve got 5 people who are in for Saturday.  We need at least another 5 more to get a good game on.  Respond to this post or the previous if you’re in for Saturday.  We won’t get out there unless we have enough positive responses to the blog.  It’s going to be nice out, plus, there’s nothing better to do at 10 am on Saturday so get your butts out on the pitch!

PS  If you already responded to the previous post this week, no need to comment again.

Touch is on for Saturday, April 6th.

Guys,

We all saw how embarrassing Obama’s attempt at athleticism was over Easter Weekend.  Let’s bring some pride back to DC, and to the United States of America for that matter, by playing the awesome rugby that we play.  Remember, nothing boosts municipal spirits better than dummy runs past off-side defenders, and crisp passes that flirt with forward calls but are actually perfectly parallel, which end up in the hands of the winger who cunningly sidesteps the opposition and speedily scores the winning try and gets first dibs at the Gatorade Wences brought.  DC clearly needs us.

Comment and let us know if you’re in for the glory this Saturday, April 6th at 10am.

Bring it on! Touch game this Saturday in AdMo

Team, you know the drill, it’s mid week and we’re gearing up again for another great turnout for this Saturday’s (March 30) touch rugby game in Adams Morgan.

Let us know if you’re joining by commenting on this post. We’ll start at 10am as usual and if you want to come earlier, we’ll be warming up and practicing at 9:30am. Weather is looking good for the weekend and seems like we’ll actually start playing in the 40/50s rather than 30s for a change! Looking forward to seeing you there!

In the meantime, here are a few tips, tricks and food for thought for the game:

  • Communicate well with your team for a better chance of knowing who the dummy half will be and who will get the ball.
  • Take the touch! Running up, taking the touch and quickly playing the ball will give you more ground than giving your team mates “hospital passes“.
  • Running straight, rather than sideways and backwards, will allow you to gain ground and save time/energy.
  • Defend in a line, running up quickly to make the touch without your team mates will leave gaps in the defensive line.
  • Try not to bunch up by standing too close to your team mates. Passing is quicker than running and will give you space to draw and pass or try basic moves such as the wrap or cut.
  • And as always, have fun!

Have any other tips? Post them in the comments!
